Jerez, in southern Spain, the home of the world's finest sherries, is also world known for its magnificent traditions.
On May 10th/13th, a new edition of EQUISUR -21sth Horse Fair- will be held and we hope to meet more than 400 horses coming from the whole of Spain, not to mention the great number of firms taking part in the commercial exhibition.
The Horse Fair in Jerez dates back to 1868, although we must search the real origin when the King Alfonso X "the Wise" granted to the town of Jerez de la Frontera with the privilege of having not one but two cattle markets a year (April and September).
The passage of time made that the market was turning into a popular event that every year was changing its location. Nowadays, from 1902, it is held in a nice park of the city.
Since 1992, when the new exhibition hall was opened, the Institución Ferial de Cádiz organizes EQUISUR: a commercial exhibition supporting with the traditional Morphological horses competition.
Besides the commercial exhibition and the morphological horses competition, in EQUISUR you will find a painting showing and equestrian spectacles.
